A perfect example of corrupt, unaccountable politicians in bed with a corrupt, unaccountable corporate tycoon. So, now Bill Gates apparently influences government funding cuts in Canada. As if he couldn't fund all of them easily!

Nice summary of current and future linux trends in education (i.e. growing like crazy! :-)). Although note that in the article, the author needs to be updated, in that in the Nigeria case, they will be staying with linux and NOT windows. :-)

Couldn't have said it better myself...(in fact, I've been saying this for years! :-)) Canadian children (with the exception of a few enlightened places) are being deprived of learning about alternatives, and what has become a world standard, linux, used in schools around the world! :-)

Well, it's no surprise to me that MS has been caught, yet again, using illegal tactics. Wonder how much the Canadian/provincial governments have been corrupted by this monopoly.
Meanwhile, on a positive note, there are open, competent, dedicated educators out there improving the lifes of their young students using FLOSS. :-)

Now here is an exemplary case of someone educating those who have been brainwashed by FUD(Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) over the use of open software. No less than the U.S. Navy Research, Development and Acquisition Policy site, educating the fearful about the advantages of Open software CMS (Content Management Systems). She did her research, chose what met their needs, was highly customizable and very cost effective. Bravo! :-)
And here is an excellent, extremely successful example of Open Software for health care systems: VistA (not to be confused with windows vista, which is a disaster...:-))

So, like, I did the math...here's an article that says a typical US government dept., the U.S. ATF agency has signed a 2 year contract for $68 million for 7,000 Windows XP desktops. This works out to more than $9000 (almost 10 thousand) per computer!!!??! Worse yet, they may be 'forced' by MS to 'upgrade'. Heck, at that price, why not just buy everyone at new computer every year (or six months)!? (And buy a couple more for your local school/hospital, etc.?) I wonder how many boondoogles we have like this in Canadian/Ontario governments? But hey, there's no money for schools, education, hospitals, medical care, etc. Geez, now I don't have to wonder why.
